How often should my pet be groomed?
We recommend to keep your pet looking their best, and to promote good health, your pet should be groomed every 6-8 weeks. Additionally, regular brushing can prevent matting and encourage healthy skin. Ask one of our staff members if you aren’t sure how to properly care for your pet’s coat at home.
What is the drop-off and pick-up time?
Pets are dropped off between 8-9AM, but can be later by request. Early pick-up times are available and must be requested when making appointments.
When can I have my pet groomed?
Appointments are available 7 days a week – just stop in or call us at (516) 488-2705 to make an appointment. If your pet will also be boarding with us at Jo-Mar, you can let us know if you would like for them to be groomed at that time as well.
What sizes and breeds of dogs do you groom?
At Jo-Mar, we specialize in all sizes and breeds, from the smallest mini toy breeds to the largest Great Danes. Check out our photos to see our happy family of clients that come in all sizes and shapes.
What hair style will my dog receive?
All dogs – as well as their owners – have their own unique style and personality, so at Jo-Mar we can customize any cut to your liking.
What are the prices based upon?
Listed prices are base prices only. Prices are subject to go up or down depending on your pets breed, size, condition and behavior.
Do you tranquilize the dogs or cats?
NO NO NO !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
If we have a problem handling a pet we call the owners and ask for the pet to be picked up, or we can give it another try with the owners present.
What are your vaccination requirements?
Dogs must be current on their Bordatella, DLPP, Rabies and canine influenza. Bordetella is required by Best In Show to be administered every 6 months. If the vaccine doesn’t meet the 6 month requirement it must be administered at least 10 days prior to your dog’s visit
My veterinarian says my dog only needs the Bordatella vaccine once a year. Why does your facility require it twice a year?
Bordatella (kennel cough) is a highly contagious airborne infection similar to the common cold that children pick up at human daycare. Much like the human flu vaccine, no vaccine is 100%, effective as new stains of Bordatella continually develop and some dogs are more susceptible to this infection than others. Jo-Mar takes all possible precautions to eliminate the possible spread of this infection in our facility. Since there is current debate about how long the vaccine will protect your dog, we require it twice a year to ensure there are no outbreaks at our facility.
Do you provide food, or should I bring it with my pet?
We feed our guests IAMS dog and cat food, but if you prefer something else, please feel free to bring it along.
Is there anything else I should bring?
We provide bedding and toys for all of our boarding guests, but you are welcome to bring along your pet’s own bedding and toys if you like. However, please be aware that we are not responsible for items you may bring, as your pet is likely to chew them in your absence. A sweatshirt or t-shirt (old, of course!) which has been worn by family members is a great way for your pet to snuggle up to your scent while a guest at Jo-Mar.
What vaccinations must my pet have?
All dogs must have their canine booster (DHLPP) (once per year), as well as their rabies shot (once per 3-years) and Bordetella (‘Kennel Cough’ – every 6 months) vaccinations up to date. Cats are required to have their FDRPC booster for feline distemper and feline rabies. Please bring along proof of these vaccinations with your pet.
What if my pet gets sick?
Jo-Mar has a friendly and working relationship with may of the veterinarians in the area, and has veterinarians on call for any sickness or emergencies.
Can family members visit my pet while boarding?
Absolutely! As long as we have written consent on file, family members and friends may visit with your pet or take them for walks or outings while they are guests at Jo-Mar.
Are pets groomed while boarding at Jo-Mar?
